Decora is built on accumulation, and accumulation needs something plain underneath to sit on. Look at any coord that works and there is a simple oversized garment doing the structural job — usually one colour, usually heavy enough to carry clips, pins and layered accessories without stretching at the shoulder. That garment is the reason the rest is legible. Most people buy the accessories first, put them over a busy printed piece, and cannot understand why the result reads as clutter.

This design is deliberately uncluttered for exactly that reason: one figure, one balloon, two lines of type. There is room on it. A fleece at this weight also takes hardware without sagging, which a light knit does not — pinned decoration on a thin garment pulls the fabric out of shape permanently after a few wears.

It comes in white, black and rice apricot. White is the lightest reading and lets the artwork sit closest to print on paper. Black is the strongest contrast of the three and the one most designs here were composed for. Rice apricot is the warm middle ground — a soft, slightly greyed cream that takes the edge off a graphic without muting it.

The base garment is brushed fleece, 300 to 380 gsm, lined hood, ribbed cuffs and hem, kangaroo pocket. Take your usual size for the intended oversized drop, or size down for a closer fit. Layered socks and a chunky sole below, and hair clips in even numbers if you are building the full coord.

One practical note on decoration: pin through the seam allowance rather than the middle of a panel wherever you can. Fleece recovers from a pinhole far better than jersey does, but a heavy badge hung in open fabric will eventually leave a mark that no wash removes.
