A black roses hoodie where texture replaces the second colour

A monochrome design has no colour to create separation, so it relies on tone and texture alone. Jersey is smooth and gives you neither; brushed fleece has a raised, slightly irregular surface that scatters light, and a grey printed on it reads as a material rather than as a flat value. On this artwork that works in its favour — the stonework gains grain, the roses gain depth, and the whole panel stops looking like a print and starts looking like an object.

There is a limit to that, and it is worth being honest about it. The finest hatching in the background architecture loses a little definition on fleece compared to cotton. What you gain in surface, you pay for in the smallest details. For a design this dependent on mid-tones rather than hairlines, the trade lands on the right side.

It comes in white and black. White is the brightest and the most graphic, closest to how the artwork looks printed flat. Black is the deeper reading, where the lighter elements of the design appear to emerge from the base rather than sit on top of it. Two bases, two very different pieces.

The piece is brushed fleece at 300 to 380 gsm, with a lined hood, ribbed cuffs and hem and a kangaroo pocket. Fleece is knitted rather than woven, then brushed on the inside face — which is why it stretches slightly with wear and why the weight matters: a heavier knit recovers its shape where a light one keeps whatever it was last pulled into.

Take your usual size for the intended oversized drop, or size down for a closer fit. Black trousers, silver at the wrists, and something with weight at the feet to finish the line the shoulders start.
