Metallic rendering is entirely an illusion built from tonal steps. The drawing convinces you a surface is reflective by placing hard highlights next to deep shadows with very little in between. Print that on a glossy fabric and the real shine competes with the drawn shine, and both lose. Print it on brushed fleece, which is completely matte, and the illusion owns the surface. The same principle is why chrome type looked best on uncoated paper in the era it comes from.

Scale helps too. The reflections in the flank carry a distorted horizon, the mane breaks into separate metallic strands, and the disco sphere is faceted so each square catches light individually. Those are details that need room. On a smaller panel they compress into a general shine; here they stay legible as the specific things they are.

It comes in black only, and that is a design decision rather than a limitation. This artwork depends on contrast against a dark ground: the lighter tones behave like light rather than like ink, and on any pale base the whole composition loses the depth it was drawn with.

Worked up in brushed fleece at 300 to 380 gsm, with a lined hood, ribbed cuffs and hem and a kangaroo pocket. A reflective surface is built from many narrow tonal bands sitting side by side, and a dense base is what stops them merging into a single flat grey.

Take your usual size for the intended oversized drop, or size down for a closer fit. Wide trousers and a small bag if you want the deliberate clash between an oversized cut and a Y2K accessory.
