A dice hoodie that breaks the Y2K rule on purpose

Y2K silhouettes narrow. Everything about the era ran tight and short — cropped tops, low waists, small bags — and every other piece in this run is drawn for that proportion. An oversized hood is the opposite instruction. Worn with the rest of a Y2K outfit it reads as a deliberate mismatch rather than a period reconstruction, which is either exactly what you want or exactly what you do not. Worn with wide trousers it stops being Y2K at all and becomes straightforward streetwear carrying a chrome graphic.

Both readings are legitimate. Harajuku has never respected the internal rules of the styles it borrows, and mixing a 2001 graphic with a 2015 silhouette is precisely the kind of thing the street does without asking permission. But it is a choice, and knowing you are making it is better than discovering it in a mirror.

It comes in black only, and that is a design decision rather than a limitation. This artwork depends on contrast against a dark ground: the lighter tones behave like light rather than like ink, and on any pale base the whole composition loses the depth it was drawn with.

Formed in brushed fleece, 300 to 380 gsm, with a lined hood, ribbed cuffs and hem and a kangaroo pocket. Chrome rendering depends on tight tonal steps between highlight and shadow, and a stable, dense base is what keeps metal from turning into plastic. Take your usual size, or size down for a closer fit — and on this one, sizing down is a reasonable idea if you intend to wear it with the rest of a Y2K outfit rather than against it.

Wash cold, inside out, no dryer. Metallic rendering lives in the narrow gap between highlight and shadow, and heat is what closes that gap: once the tonal steps blur, the chrome reads as flat grey and never comes back.
