Geisha Tee

A geisha tee drawn like a propaganda poster, not a postcard
A woman in a patterned kimono raising a drink, sunglasses on, rays bursting out behind her in red and cream, SIP & SHINE cut across the foot of the panel. The geisha tee deliberately borrows the visual grammar of mid-century poster art and hands it to a figure who looks entirely unbothered.
The tension is the design. Geisha imagery is usually treated with a reverence that flattens it — soft focus, cherry blossom, a bowed head. Here the composition is hard-edged and graphic: flat colour blocks, a strong diagonal ray pattern, thick outlines, no gradient anywhere. She is not being observed. She is looking straight out of the panel at whoever is standing behind you.
Look at the detail in the kimono and the hair ornaments and you can see the drawing underneath the flatness — the pattern on the sleeve, the kanzashi in the hair, the small cup held at the right height. The sunburst does the heavy lifting from a distance, the ornament work rewards a closer look, and the two-line slogan gives the whole thing a place to land.
It comes in white, black, apricot, slate and piggy pink. White gives the poster its cleanest reading, the way it would look pasted on a wall. Black makes the cream rays glow and turns the whole panel nocturnal. Apricot and slate soften the contrast for anyone who wants the graphic without the shout, and piggy pink takes it fully into Harajuku territory.
This one sits on 240 gsm cotton, which is the right weight for a design made of flat colour blocks: the surface has to stay flat for the blocks to keep their edges, and lighter cotton simply does not. The cut is true oversized with a dropped shoulder and a crew neck, the proportion these prints were drawn for.
Take your usual size for the intended drop, or size down for a closer fit. Wide trousers work here, and so does a chunky sole — this is a poster graphic, and it wants a silhouette with some presence underneath it.
