A gothic nun hoodie that borrows a silhouette, not just an image

Monastic dress was designed to erase the individual: a heavy fall of fabric from the shoulders, a covered head, no waist, no display. Every religious order in Europe arrived at some version of it independently, because the brief was identical. An oversized hood does exactly the same three things — drops the shoulder, adds a covering above it, removes the waist entirely. Wearing this print on this garment is not a coincidence of merchandising; it is the same silhouette twice, once drawn and once worn.

The stained glass in the panel also gains from the surface. Real leaded glass is never perfectly flat — it carries bubbles, thickness variations and slight distortion, which is why light through it moves. Brushed fleece scatters light in a comparable way, and the coloured panels read closer to actual glass here than they would on smooth cotton.

It comes in white and black. White is the brightest and the most graphic, closest to how the artwork looks printed flat. Black is the deeper reading, where the lighter elements of the design appear to emerge from the base rather than sit on top of it. Two bases, two very different pieces.

The garment runs brushed fleece, 300 to 380 gsm, lined hood, ribbed cuffs and hem, kangaroo pocket. Take your usual size for the intended drop, or size down for a closer fit. If you plan to belt it, stay at your usual size — the volume you lose at the waist is volume you need above it.

One care note worth following on a coloured print: wash cold and inside out, and keep softener away from the panel entirely. Softener works by coating fibres, and a coated fibre holds less pigment — the glass colours are always the first thing to go dull.
