Gothic Nun Tee

Stained glass was never decoration. In a building full of people who could not read, the windows were the text — each panel a scene, each colour a code, the whole thing lit from behind so it changed through the day. The frame does the work that a caption would do now. Printing a figure inside that arch puts the graphic in a lineage that runs back eight hundred years, which is a longer pedigree than most streetwear can claim.

The drawing plays it straight. Deep blues and reds in the glasswork, gold in the tracery, the habit rendered in heavy fabric folds, the face left in shadow under the veil. What keeps it from tipping into costume is the restraint: no blood, no inverted symbols, nothing borrowed from a horror film. The severity comes entirely from the composition and the palette.

It comes in black, americano, slate and piggy pink. Black is the intended reading, where the coloured glass appears lit from behind. Americano warms the golds and gives it the feel of an old church interior. Slate cools everything toward stone. Piggy pink is the deliberate contradiction, and the most Harajuku of the four — a severe graphic on a base that refuses to take itself seriously.

Held on heavyweight cotton at 240 gsm. Colour panels bounded by fine gold tracery need a flat surface or the lines break; the weight is what holds them. True oversized cut, dropped shoulder, crew neck. Take your usual size, or size down for a closer fit.
