A lucky clover hoodie for a date that falls in March

Saint Patrick's Day falls on the seventeenth of March. In most of the northern hemisphere that is still cold — parades happen in coats, and the people wearing the most committed outfits are standing outside in them for several hours. A t-shirt on that date is a garment you cover with something else, which defeats the point of wearing it at all. A hoodie is the layer that stays visible.

The print also handles the transfer well. Everything in it is saturated flat colour with hard boundaries — green coat, gold coins, banded rainbow — and that kind of artwork loses nothing on a textured surface. Where fleece struggles is with subtle gradients and hairline detail, neither of which appears anywhere in this design. It was, by accident, drawn for the heavier garment.

It comes in white and black. White is the brightest and the most graphic, closest to how the artwork looks printed flat. Black is the deeper reading, where the lighter elements of the design appear to emerge from the base rather than sit on top of it. Two bases, two very different pieces.

Made up in brushed fleece at 300 to 380 gsm, with a lined hood, ribbed cuffs and hem and a kangaroo pocket. Take your usual size for the intended oversized drop, or size down for a closer fit. Denim below, and something on your feet you do not mind standing in for a while.

Since this one is printed to order like everything else here, allow for that before the seventeenth rather than the week of. Nothing in this catalogue exists before somebody asks for it, which is the trade for a design nobody else is selling.
