The image has a real precedent. Ossuaries — chapels built from human remains — exist across Europe, from Kutná Hora in Bohemia to the Capuchin crypt in Rome, and their logic was never gothic decoration. They were built when graveyards overflowed, and the bones were arranged deliberately so that the living would count them. The message written in one of them says it plainly: what you are, we once were. A figure praying inside that arrangement is the whole point of the architecture.

The drawing keeps that older register. Everything is line and negative space: the halo built from radiating strokes, the habit from vertical hatching, the skulls repeated in tight rows that turn into pattern at a distance. There is no gore anywhere and no attempt at shock. The effect comes from composition and repetition, which is why it holds up printed large across a back.

It comes in black, americano and slate. Black is the natural home for a white-line drawing and the one the artwork was composed for. Americano warms it toward old paper, which suits a motif descended from woodblock printing. Slate is the most restrained and reads as grey monochrome from any distance.

Weight matters here: 240 gsm heavyweight cotton. High-contrast linework is unforgiving, because any warp in the fabric shows immediately in a straight white line on black.

The cut is oversized from the pattern stage, with a dropped shoulder and a crew neck. Take your usual size for the intended drop, or size down for a closer fit. Black trousers and heavy boots below.
