The ramen tee that treats a bowl of noodles as a poster
RAMEN set in a heavy serif, Club running underneath in blue script, a bowl of noodles with the egg cut open and a sheet of nori standing upright out of the broth. The ramen tee takes the most photographed meal in Japan and gives it the treatment usually reserved for a band or a football team.
That is the joke, and it holds. Ramen shops in Tokyo have their own graphic language — hand-painted signage, blue and white porcelain, chopsticks angled across the bowl, the katakana ラーメン stacked vertically down the side of a doorway. The print borrows all of it and arranges it like a poster you would actually pin up, rather than a photograph of dinner.
The detail is where it earns its place. The bowl carries the traditional seigaiha wave pattern around the rim, the noodles are drawn strand by strand rather than as a mass, the nori has the right matte finish against the gloss of the egg yolk. Warm oranges against the blue script give the panel its balance, and the halftone dots behind the bowl push it toward print rather than illustration.
It comes in white, black, apricot, slate and piggy pink. White is the cleanest reading and the closest to the shop-poster idea. Black flips it to neon-sign territory, the way the same bowl looks at eleven at night. Apricot warms it, slate mutes it, and piggy pink leans into the softer, sweeter side of Japanese food culture.
The base is heavyweight cotton at 240 gsm, which matters more than it sounds on a print this wide: thin cotton lets a large panel crease across the shoulder blades every time you move, and the graphic stops reading. At this weight the back stays flat and the drawing stays legible. The cut is true oversized with a dropped shoulder and a crew neck, drawn that way from the start.
Take your usual size for the intended relaxed drop, or size down if you want it closer to the body. Straight trousers below, nothing tucked, and a sole with some weight to it — the proportion only works when the bottom half stays narrow.
